Golf courses throughout the world have had to deal with the issue of keeping their fairways in the best possible condition throughout the playing season, be it year round or seasonally. One of the major concerns in maintaining good and playable fairways has been that of fairway divot repair. Un-repaired divots have been the nemesis of greens keepers and golf superintendent lives the world over. It is very frustrating for a golfer to hit a shot into the fairway only to find that it has come to rest in an old or un-repaired divot.

Courses that have a "Carts Only" policy in most instances provide those carts with the generic round divot bottle that is attached to the cart. When play is restricted to "Cart Paths Only" the dilemma exists of having the golfer having to take the divot bottle with him or her to the location where the shot will be played. Unfortunately, a large percentage of golfers do not take the bottle with them. The shot is hit, and hopefully an attempt is made to replace the divot(s) if it remains in one piece. The majority of time however, the divot has splayed and dispersed into several pieces. The end result is not only an unsightly divot hole, but the fairway will now need several days, if not weeks for the turf to re-grow backs to it's original state of playability.

Consider the fact that most golfers take practice swings before attempting each shot. Each swing has the potential for making a divot. Since most of the golfing population does not reach the green(s) in regulation, those areas 100 yards to 20 yards out from the green become subject to severe divots as the shorter clubs are used (Wedges). These areas see little, if any, divot repair. The majority of courses does not allow carts near the greens and the players in most instances, do not take divot bottles with them. For the golfer who carries his or her bag, there is nothing available to accommodate them.

One of the very worst scenarios is when inclement weather is involved where carts are not allowed and play is restricted to walking only. There is no opportunity for divot replacement in this case. This has been an on-going problem with golf courses throughout the world.
